It's been a while since I last wrote about our Junior section but lots has been happening.
County wise we have had another Grand Prix and a teams event. The teams event went down really well with the Juniors as it was 2 matches with 3 games each. They love playing the longer form of the game. The Grand Prix was less well attended than usual, due to a busy month, well done to David for getting to the final of the C grade.
Last weekend we had the county doubles at Daventry, there were 10 pairs of children with half being Brackley. It was a great event and really pleasing to see so many girls there. Lots of fun, laughter and a few bruises (don't worry Caitlin the lump on your head will soon go down). David and Jonnie got to the semi finals and did very well against strong opposition. It was also nice to see Oli play in the seniors (including against his dad!), and the confidence he has on court.
A few of our children have been involved in regional Copper tournaments (the grades go Copper, Bronse, Silver and Gold). Well done to all who entered. It's by playing these tournaments that they get better. Emma came 3rd in the Kenilworth event U15 Girls.
Oliver has played a few 3rd team matches now coming very close to winning his first match. We hope to bring more talent through in time.
Lastly you may have seen on the club notice board we are following a new structured junior squash scheme devised in Nottinghamshire. The kids have really taken to it as it's very well structured and moves in small steps. There are 15 levels altogether. If you want to try some drills have a look and have a go, there are levels for all abilities. Below are some of the certificates the children have started to earn.
And very lastly, I had the pleasure of watching a couple of exhibition matches in Edgbaston. Here I am with the ladies. Answers on a postcard please for the 4 world top 10 players.
